Job Description

Middle School Mathematics

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Provide mathematics instruction to middle school students in general education math classes and Math Support Lab classes. Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons that support student understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs, provide targeted academic intervention and reinforcement, monitor student progress, and maintain a supportive and engaging learning environment. Collaborate with colleagues and support student achievement in accordance with district curriculum and instructional expectations.

Essential Skills and/or Experience:

• Knowledge of middle school mathematics content and instructional practices.
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned mathematics lessons.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to students with varying academic needs.
• Effective classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to assess student understanding, monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Ability to establish positive relationships with students and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Preferred Skills and /or Experience:

• Experience teaching middle school mathematics.
• Experience providing math intervention, remediation, or academic support in a Math Support Lab or similar setting.
• Familiarity with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), including collaborative lesson planning, reviewing student data, and developing strategies to improve student achievement.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace for Education tools to support instruction, communication, collaboration, and student learning.
• Experience using Promethean interactive displays or similar classroom interactive board technology to enhance mathematics instruction.

Locations: Northport Middle School and East Northport Middle School 

Job Qualifications

Required Certifications: 

• Mathematics (Grades 5–9), Mathematics (Grades 7–12) with Mathematics 5–6 Extension, or equivalent NYS certification authorizing mathematics instruction in grades 6–8
