Job Description

Summer Marching Band Pre-Clinic - Certified Teachers: 

Pre-Clinic: July 20–23, July 27–July 30, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Teaching marching basics and marching techniques
  • Assisting with conducting and ensemble rehearsal
  • Providing instruction for woodwinds, brass and marching percussion
  • Applying effective pedagogy to support student learning
  • Supporting students in developing music and marching skills
  • Working collaboratively with students, staff and community members

Qualifications: 

  • NYS Music teaching certification required
  • Knowledge of wind, brass, and marching percussion instruments
  • Experience with marching band techniques and rehearsal procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with students

Summer Marching Band Tigerette Director:

Pre-Clinic: July 27–30 and August 10-13, 2026 at NHS 

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Responsible for leading and preparing the Tigerette Dance Team during pre-season rehearsals and summer training sessions.
  • Planning and leading all rehearsals
  • Developing and implementing a training plan that promotes skill progression, technique, and team unity
  • Teaching and cleaning choreography, as well as staging formations and transitions
  • Collaborating closely with the marching band staff to ensure alignment, timing, and overall performance cohesion
  • Maintaining a positive, inclusive, and disciplined environment for all dancers
  • During Band Camp, they supervise students throughout the camp day and are available for general supervisory duties in the overnight hours as part of a four-night sleep-away/ five-day band camp, ensuring student safety and adherence to camp expectations.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Music teaching certification required
  • Must demonstrate strong proficiency in dance technique and have prior experience teaching choreography and formations in a team setting.
  • Experience with marching band techniques and rehearsal procedures
  • An effective communicator, organized instructor, and positive leader who can motivate dancers of varying skill levels

Summer Marching Band Camp Tigerette Assistant:

Pre-Clinic: July 27–30 and August 10-13, 2026 at NHS

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Primary role is to help the Tigerettes learn the marching band drill, support rehearsals, and assist in putting the full show together in a positive and organized environment.
  • Support the Tigerette Director during pre-clinic and band camp by helping teach and review the band and Tigerette drill on the field
  • Expected to remain on the field for the full duration of Tigerette rehearsals and assist with supervision during evening activities
  • During Band Camp, they supervise students throughout the camp day and are available for general supervisory duties in the overnight hours as part of a four-night sleep-away/ five-day band camp, ensuring student safety and adherence to camp expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Assistants must be proficient in dance technique and serve as positive role models who are trustworthy, reliable, and responsible

Summer Marching Band Flagline Director:

Pre-Clinic: July 20–23 and July 27-July 30, 2026 at NHS 

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Responsible for leading and preparing the flagline during two weeks of pre-clinic rehearsals and one week of band camp 
  • Planning for and leading all rehearsals
  • Develop and implement a plan that promotes skill progression and and consistency for all students
  • Collaboration with the marching band staff to ensure alignment across the group
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive environment for all students
  • During Band Camp, they supervise students throughout the camp day and are available for general supervisory duties in the overnight hours as part of a four-night sleep-away/ five-day band camp, ensuring student safety and adherence to camp expectations.

Qualifications: 

  • Must demonstrate strong proficiency in flag technique 
  • Must have prior experience teaching choreography and drill in a marching band or color guard setting
  • Must be an effective communicator, organized instructor, and positive leader who can motivate students of varying skill levels

Summer Marching Band Flagline Assistant: 

Pre-Clinic: July 20–23 and July 27-July 30, 2026 at NHS 

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Primary role is to help the Flagline learn the marching band drill, support rehearsals, and assist in putting the full show together in a positive and organized environment
  • Supports the Flagline Director during all 3 weeks of our summer program
  • Helps to teach and review the routines and field drill
  • Serve as a positive role model for students by being responsible, trustworthy, and punctual
  • Expected to remain on the field for the full duration of Flagline rehearsals
  • Assist with supervision during evening activities
  • During Band Camp, they supervise students throughout the camp day and are available for general supervisory duties in the overnight hours as part of a four-night sleep-away/ five-day band camp, ensuring student safety and adherence to camp expectations.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be proficient in flag technique

Summer Marching Band Pre-Clinic - Certified Drumline Teacher:

Pre-Clinic: July 20–23 and July 27-July 30, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Teaching approximately 40 students Marching Basics and marching techniques specific to percussion
  • Providing instruction for battery percussion, (snare, Tenor/quints,bass drums,cymbals) and mallet percussion.
  • Leading sectional rehearsals and supporting full ensemble rehearsals
  • Applying effective marching band percussion pedagogy and rehearsal techniques
  • Writing and teaching a cadence for the drumline
  • Composing a percussion feature of approximately 140 counts
  • Supporting students in developing musical, rhythmic, and marching skills
  • Working collaboratively with students, staff and the community
  • Working collaboratively with the band director on all aspects of the drumline. 

Qualifications:

  • NYS Music Teaching Certification required
  • Strong knowledge of marching and percussion techniques and battery percussion
  • Knowledge of mallet percussion performance band pedagogy
  • Experience teaching marching band percussion and rehearsal procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with all students. 

Summer Marching Band Camp - Certified Teachers (including drumline):

Band Camp: August 4-7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Teach marching band fundamentals and provide instruction for winds, brass, and percussion
  • Conduct sectionals and assist with rehearsals using effective music pedagogy and ensemble rehearsal strategies
  • Supervise students throughout the camp day and be available for  general supervisory duties in the overnight hours as part of a four-night sleep-away/ five day band camp, ensuring student safety and adherence to camp expectations
  • Attend and assist with pre-camp responsibilities including student luggage check
  • Work collaboratively with students and staff members to maintain a positive and productive rehearsal environment

Qualifications:

  • Certified Music teacher to support instruction during summer marching band camp
  • Ability to read and teach marching band drill, marching band basics, and marching band techniques

Summer Marching Band Pre-Clinic - Lead Teacher Chaperone: 

Pre-Clinic: July 20–23, July 27-July 30, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Collect and log medical forms
  • Collect and log payments
  • Collect and log medication forms
  • Collect and log medications for the nurse
  • Coordinate chaperones
  • Work with Pam Dayton to create maps of available rooms
  • Create rooming assignments for marching band staff, chaperones, and students 
  • Facilitate questions about the camp experience for parents and students 

Qualifications:

  • NYS Music teaching certification required
  • Ability to work effectively with students

Summer Marching Band Camp - Lead Teacher Chaperone: 

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Schedule chaperones for coverage on field, meal times, overnight
  • Daily meeting with chaperones for any changes
  • Answer questions for parents via e-mail and band phone number
  • Bring students from field to nurse for daily medications and/or medical needs
  • Supervise students during meal times, free times, and overnight
  • Serve as go between to assist students with facilities issues (ie. dorm lock codes not working, calling security to open rooms when students lose keys, etc.) 
  • Assist students who are feeling overwhelmed or homesick
  • Coordinate with parents who may need to drop off items or pick up a child  

Qualifications:

  • NYS Music teaching certification required
  • Ability to work effectively with students

Summer Marching Band Camp - Lead Teacher Chaperone Assistant:

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist Summer Marching Band Camp Lead Teacher Chaperone with student responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Certified Teacher/Aid Assistant
  • Ability to work effectively with students

Summer Marching Band Camp Chaperones: 

Band Camp: August 4–7, 2026 at LIU/Post and Aug 8, 2026 at NHS

Responsibilities include: 

  • Supervise students on the field, meals, and in the dorms
  • Supervise social activities
  • Monitor dorm hallways overnight
  • Accompany students when they are not in a large group (ie. visiting the nurse for medication or injury, walking a student back to dorms for forgotten personal item)

Qualifications:

  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • At least 17 years old
